Your local VOSA office needs to approve the installation, but the system is designed to comply with the technical requirements (image quality in variable light conditions, no recording etc).

The siting requirements require the camera to give an equivalent view to the one available from the old viewing area and the screen to be sited in a suitable waiting room/area.

Subject to that being satisfactory we are told there would no reason for the installation to be refused (see below).

_________

Recent changes to Public Viewing “Area” requirement:

"MOT TESTING SCHEME Requirements for Authorisation for a Vehicle Test Station (Common to all Classes) November 2009."

4.1e) a clearly identified weatherproof public waiting room or area from which the whole test can be directly observed without interruption, except for road testing (room for 2 seated people is considered sufficient)
• mirror or camera relayed images may be acceptable if all parts of the test can be observed as it would from an enclosed viewing area with window. Consideration should be given to the quality of image produced during variable light conditions. The use of recording equipment (CCTV) is unacceptable.

Hi all,

If you've ever wanted to use up the valuable workshop space taken up by the public viewing area in the MOT bay (and cut out possible Tester distraction and H&S issue of members of the public being in the workshop), MOT Testing Magazine has done a deal with Prosol UK on a superb CCTV system.

The kit is complete (includes power supply, camera, 17" colour flat screen and cable) ready to install and costs just £189 +VAT and delivery.

You also get two free issues of MOT Testing magazine and 10% off your next purchase at Prosol.
