hi lads heres the final update.

my VE called this morning and didnt know why i hadnt been given class vii status.

he asked me a few questions down the phone regarding class vii and said he was happy with my answers and to sync my card in 15 minutes.

i was actually called back in less than 10 minutes and said to sync my card immediately and i would be able to test class vii.

still not sure what went on, maybe a glitch of somesort...either way im happy

ok this automatic class vii entitlement is not as black and white as it seem.

basically it is possible to have automatic class vii entitlement but there is a certain criteria.

i dont qualify for it because i havent been testing long enough (ive been testing 4 years)

this is what the girl in the local area office has told me. my VE is on holiday till monday so ill know more then.

That doesn't seem right either.
Let us know what your ve says.

I was told by trainer at refresher 2 weeks ago that a class IV tester is also class VII as there are only 6 differences in test, and should be able to test either class at qualifying MOT station, Let us know what happens please

it seems this is not correct.

i logged on to a class vii station yesterday.

my first test was class iv and went without a hitch. my second test was class vii

and the computer aborted the test due me not having class vii entitlement. phoned the area office who confirmed i dont have class vii entitlement, who then told me i have to apply by message to my local VE who will be able to do it for me. but the girl on the phone didnt know if it would be a phone interview or a demo test.

I do hope Mrs Stealth doesn't look in on this. You'll be in so much trouble.

kit - as a current Class 4 tester you can resume Class 7 testing at any time without the need for a demo or refresher. I'm not sure about the Class 5 though, as you have had a 5 year break, you may need to do the Class 5L training again, which is around half a day at the VTS. Next time I see one of our trainers I'll ask.

:)

I have had a 5 year break from class 7 & 5, so if I went back part time would I need a demo for the ve or could I just carry on where I left off?

We stopped doing additional demo tests for Class 7 in my area years ago, maybe Wales haven't caught up with the times yet.;)

There are few differences really

- there are additional tyre checks for load index, and twin tyres with wall to wall contact

- there is body security for dropsides, tippers & flatbeds,

and slightly different brake test criteria for unladen Class 7 vehicles.

Other than that it's all run of the mill stuff that you would be doing on Class 4 vans anyway.

Good luck.

stealth, i want to snog you...with tongues.

i was given incorrect information by VOSA Llantrisant it seems.

they told me i would have to register on the system of a class 7 garage but i wouldnt be allowed to test until i was observed doing a demo test infront of our VOSA "area rep" <--- not sure if thats what he's called

There is no requirement tor a demo test if you go to a Class 7 site. It may be good practice for the QC to run through a couple of tests with you, but as said in my previous post you automatically have Class 7 entitlement when you qualified for Class 4

yes it was explained there was no further training required....but as i understand it, i wont be able to test class 7 until i have done a demo test in front of the guy who covers our area...is this true?

thank you for taking the time to reply.

Hi Neil.

Your Class 4 ticket also gives you Class 7 entitlement. No further training is needed.

Should you move, or perhaps do some part time testing at a Class 7 site you wil be able to test. You will need to revise the manual as there are a few differences, but not too many.

hi, ive been testing class IV for four years now.

i now want to become a class VII tester, but the garage im working at only tests class IV.

how can i go about becoming class VII?? is there no other way but to work in a class VII testing station?

if there are any garage owners in the Rhondda area who are willing to allow me to do it at their premesis i am prepared to pay.
