Dave, you do understand the principle of the weekend and bank holidays not being working days right? Even before mot comp it was ten 'working' days for a retest. That was what gave you that '14 day retest' you spoke of in your first post.

Can't see what the big issue is myself. MOTCOMP has been set up for 10 WORKING DAYS, not including weekends and public holidays since its inception, that's almost ten years.

You are correct Jock, that is what I was referring to, but also to bank holidays. So if I can explain this clearly without confusion, this is what I meant previously;

Friday April 17. I carry out a test and the vehicle failed.
Saturday is not the next working day, nor is Sunday, but Monday 20th is the next working day, even though the Test Station could be testing Saturday and Sunday.

Hope you follow to that point.

Now the 10 working day retest started Monday 20th, but has already had two additional days of grace, i.e. Saturday and Sunday.

Now by Friday the 24th of April, 5 working days have now lapsed, but a total of 7 days have passed.

Now we have another Saturday and Sunday the 25th and 26th of April, so that means that a total of 9 days have now passed, but only 6 days to Monday the 27th April.

By Friday the 1st May, this equates to 10 working days, but if you include the weekends, Saturdays and Sundays, 18th and 19th, and 25th and 26th, you have a total of 14 days.

Now my retest came in on Saturday May 02nd, I was convinced that the 10 working days was up, given the above, however the VTS device not recording Saturdays and Sundays as working days allowed the car to be registered and retested?

So,in total for this retest the time was 15 days allowed.

Now I more than likely could have retested that car also on Sunday the 03rd of May and still been able to register it, purely because the VTS device does not record Saturday and Sunday as working days you see.

Now this part is a theory because I have not been afforded the opportunity to establish it by fact, but, assume that Monday the 04th May had of been a bank holiday, I could have then retested the car on Tuesday the 05th May as the next working day, that is now a total of 18 days for a retest?

Frightening length of time for retest that don't you think!

You are absolutely correct DB9, I must be misunderstanding something, and I apologise for that, because it seems to me you are saying that the VTS device should not be ignoring the Saturdays and Sundays. Would that be correct?

It's possible that I am not being understood.Your right in that 10 working days are allowed for a retest, but they don't include Saturday's, Sunday's and public holidays, these extra days when the Test Stations are open are none counted EXTRA days.

I was confused with the recent retest and seeing how the VTS device dealt with the problem when registering the vehicle for the retest PROVED that weekends are not counted and the vehicle presented can be retested. Try it and see for yourself.

Edited to add;

The 1st would be the 10th working day.

In the wording of the reg's I think you mean the LAST day would be the 10th day.

The retests are permitted within 10 working days. The 1st would be the 10th working day.

Remembering the old 14 day free retest we used to allow today. Customer brings car in for a retest, which I initially thought was a Test. My AE advised it's a retest?

I checked the date of issue of the Test certificate April 18 and asked how can that be?

Yesterday May 01 was the official 10th day!

It seems that because the VTS device software program is setup to bypass Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays, (Although no public holiday in that period),that if a weekend, Saturday and Sunday fall after the official 10th day and the next working day being Monday, then the VTS device will register the retest and the retest can be carried out.

It seems then that a retest could be carried out up to and including 16 days.
